Family First: Building a Business That Supports Life, Not Consumes It
How Jarrad Goulding built The Local Guys around family values, creating a sustainable business model that enhances rather than sacrifices family life.
When Stacey and Jarrad Goulding started our family, we made a conscious decision that our business would enhance our family life, not compete with it. With three young children, this principle has guided every major decision at The Local Guys.
The Early Morning Advantage
Jarrad Goulding's marathon training happens before dawn, usually starting around 5 AM. This means he's back home before the kids wake up, ready to be fully present for breakfast and school routines. The same principle applies to focused work time – the early hours are for deep thinking without interruptions.
Building Systems That Scale Without You
The goal was never to create a business that needed me for every decision. Our franchise model is designed so partners can run successful operations independently, which means I can coach little league, attend school events, and be present for family dinner most nights.
Teaching Kids About Business
Our children see the business as something positive that helps other families achieve their dreams. They understand that daddy helps people start their own businesses, and they've learned about giving back through our World Vision partnership. Business becomes a family value, not a family burden.
Quality Over Quantity
Whether it's time with family, golf rounds, or business meetings, I've learned that being fully present in fewer activities beats being distracted across many. This focus has made me a better father, golfer, and business leader.
